I am Sanam Kumar and I originally came to Germany to do my bachelor's degree. But then I heard about an apprenticeship opportunity in the nursing sector from a friend and I was immediately enthusiastic about the idea. I had always wanted to work with people and help them; the nursing profession seemed like a perfect choice.

The motivation behind my decision

I started my apprenticeship at Domicil in Müllerstraße in Berlin and right from the beginning, I felt like a member of the family. The atmosphere at Domicil was warm and inviting and both the residents and colleagues were happy and content. I was excited about the opportunity to not only develop my professional skills but also to learn a lot about German culture.

Domicil offered me not only a solid apprenticeship but also various training opportunities. This chance to continuously develop and expand my knowledge is extremely important to me. It gives me the feeling that I am more safe in Germany and that I have a solid work foundation that no one can take away from me.

Daily challenges and priceless rewards

For me, the nursing profession is not just a job; it's a vocation. I find it really fulfilling to communicate with people and help them. The fact that I am able to assist other people in difficult life situations gives me a deep sense of professional fulfillment. I feel privileged to help other people in their time of need and in their increasingly difficult everyday lives.

Of course, there are also challenges in this profession. The workload can be heavy at times and it takes a lot of patience and empathy to deal with the residents needs and concerns. But for me, the rewards far outweigh the challenges. The gratitude and smiles from the patients are priceless and make every day a rewarding experience.

The role of Indian nursing professionals in Germany

Indian professionals have an excellent reputation in Germany. Our skills, intercultural sensitivity, and strong empathy make us valuable members of any nursing team. We can bridge different cultures and provide patients with a familiar and supportive environment.

I am proud to be an example of an Indian nursing apprentice who has successfully gained a foothold in Germany after only a short time. My passion for my profession, my commitment to our residents, and my constant desire for further training make me a valuable asset to the nursing team at Domicil.

Indian professionals in the nursing sector are playing an increasingly important role in Germany and are helping to cover the growing need for nursing care in an aging society. For this reason, the Federal Employment Agency entered into a cooperation agreement with the Indian state of Kerala two years ago. DOMICIL is also actively recruiting nursing professionals in my home country. With a solid education and a committed attitude, they can make a significant impact on healthcare while enjoying a fulfilling and rewarding career.
