About Me

My name is Philomina Kurisunkal Saji, and I am a registered nurse who has been living and working in Germany for the past two years. My journey to Germany began with encouragement from my aunt, who has been a registered nurse here for 20 years. She shared the numerous job opportunities available and helped me connect with an agency that facilitated my move.

The Road to Germany

After completing necessary documentation and language requirements, I applied for my visa and arrived in Germany ready to embrace my new role. Learning the German language was crucial for my success, and completing my B2 level training in India laid the foundation for effective communication. While the language can be challenging, particularly with medical terminology, I believe that practice is key.

Embracing German Culture

Upon my arrival, I was warmly welcomed by my colleagues and management. Their support was invaluable as I navigated my new environment and learned the ropes of working in a nursing home. Everyone was friendly and readily offered assistance, helping me overcome my initial nerves about speaking German. This encouragement allowed me to engage in daily interactions and improve my language skills quickly.

In my experience, life in Germany has been positive. The work environment here is less stressful compared to traditional hospital settings in India, allowing for a more relaxed pace. I appreciate the availability of facilities that assist with patient transport, enabling us to provide care without the physical strain often encountered in India.

The role of Indian nursing professionals in Germany

Indian professionals in the nursing sector are playing an increasingly important role in Germany and are helping to cover the growing need for nursing care in an aging society. For this reason, the Federal Employment Agency entered into a cooperation agreement with the Indian state of Kerala two years ago. DOMICIL is also actively recruiting nursing professionals in my home country. With a solid education and a committed attitude, they can make a significant impact on healthcare while enjoying a fulfilling and rewarding career.
